North Beach is a beach located in Calvert County, Maryland. It’s very beautiful and offers much more than just the beach to visit with family and friends, especially in the summertime.
Reason #1: The Beach ofc!
The beach is so fun and offers so much. First of all, if you have kids or are one yourself you definitely will want to check out the little pirate play ship on the beach. It is a playset in the shape of a pirate ship with a swing set, a slide, and a place where you can climb onto and stand to watch the waves and enjoy the overall view. The beach is very nice to take your kids to play on and enjoy the water. When I go to the beach, I love to bring a volleyball and I and my friends play volleyball for a while, sometimes during the day and sometimes during the nighttime.
Reason #2: The Playground
If you have kids, you should definitely take them to the playground, Robert W. Callis Memorial Park. The park includes a small playground area (tot lot), swings, jungle gym, adult exercise equipment, picnic tables, covered pavilion and benches. My friends and I always go to the park and every time we do we have a great time playing either volleyball or swinging on the swing set.
Reason #3: Sunrise Garden
Sunrise Garden is a really gorgeous and peaceful place that you should definitely visit. The garden includes a beautiful koi fishpond with lily pads, hibiscus flowers, trees, a tiny bridge going over the pond, a gazebo, and amazing small statues. I love going there and recommend it. It’s very therapeutic and peaceful to watch the koi fish or simply sit on the benches or in the gazebo. Some weekends when I’m with my friends, we will get lunch at the food truck and go to the garden to eat it in the gazebo. The garden is such a great place to go with friends and family to just chill out and enjoy nature.
Reason #4: Crystal Shop
The crystal shop Dusk and Willow Designs is a place I recommend visiting if you are into crystals and witchy practices. The customer service there is great, the workers are so sweet and welcoming and will help you pick out what you may be looking for. Another plus is hat their prices are so affordable. While some crystal shops may overprice items, at Dusk and Willow Designs they have very reasonable prices. One weekend my friends and I went there to buy each other necklaces matching each other’s eye color and when searching for the right crystal the worker assisted us and helped us find exactly what we were looking for much quicker.
Reason #5: Museum
Bayside History Museum is definitely worth visiting if you like history as it has lots of information about local history, such as how things were and looked like in Calvert County, Maryland years ago. If you are an upcoming freshman taking AP US history, you will have to visit this museum for a summer assignment and the staff there are very friendly and will help you with any questions or concerns you may have. The museum includes the formation and geology of the Chesapeake Bay, and a collection of fossils. There are artifacts and photos from the amusement park, roller coaster, and saltwater pools, and exhibits set up from Chesapeake Beach in the early 20th century as a vacation venue. Upstairs there are more exhibits on the War of 1812, scouting and Camp Roosevelt, along with a cottage exhibit containing vintage furnishings. The museum provides a great overview of the rich local history of the area. When you are finished with your visit consider checking out their shop and bookstore.
Reason #6: Restaurants
If you’re hungry and wanting to go grab a bite, North Beach has a variety of restaurants. There is Neptune’s Seafood Pub, Hook & Vine-Kitchen and Bar, Plaza
Mexico, Vaughan Cheese Counter & Bar, City Sliders, etc. My personal favorites are Hook & Vine and Mexico Plaza. Hook & Vine has an amazing crab dip that is
definitely worth checking out and their food is so fresh and prepared very nicely. Mexico Plaza has many Mexican foods, I love their quesadillas and the chorizo fries.
They also have Mexican sodas called Jarittos and there are many good flavors to try.
Reason #7: Ice cream
The three ice cream places in North Beach are Cold Penguin Ice Cream, Jango’s Frozen Treats, and lastly Dairy Freez. All of these places are worth a try, but my personal favorite is Cold Penguin. They have a unique flavor called Cappuccino Crunch which I recommend trying when going there. If that flavor doesn’t interest you, Cold Penguin has a variety of different ice cream flavors and so does Jango’s and Dairy Freez. If you’re walking around North Beach and get hot and want ice cream these places are not a far walk and are so worth visiting.
Reason #8: The Bakist
The Bakist is a breakfast place with a variety food options such as baked goods like pastries, muffins, cookies, etc., and breakfast wraps, coffees, sodas, and cakes. of If you are in North Beach in the morning, I recommend stopping by for breakfast to pick up a really good meal or some coffee. When I have a sleepover at my friend’s house in the morning, we will usually walk around the boardwalk for a while then stop by The Bakist to pick up a breakfast wrap or a muffin. It’s worth going to if you’re looking for a good time with friends or family. Personally, my friends and I love First Fridays because we can meet up and walk around to check out all the small pop ups and find new things to try or look at.
Reason #10: The Boardwalk and Pier
If you love the beach and walking, you should definitely go on a walk on the boardwalk and check out the pier as well. On the pier if you want to fish you can bring your supplies and go fishing alongside other people, too. The boardwalk and the pier are the perfect places to look at the water and enjoy the view. Along the boardwalk there are many benches in memorial for different people and their name is engraved on the bench with some information about the person. Every time I’m in North Beach I always walk along the boardwalk with my friends and love it, I recommend you do it too!
In essence, you should definitely visit North Beach if you are looking for a good time this summer with friends and family. With all the options available of what to do, there is definitely something that should be in your interest.
