Throughout high school you develop a sense of who you are. You get to know yourself a little better, you get to begin to understand who you want to be. Some people get lost in the drama of high school and don’t get to experience what it’s all truly about. High school is what you make it, so is life. To me, high school is a sample of what life is. In life, you get what you want to get out of it. Some people see rain and it ruins their mood, to others they see rain and get happy because they know that the rain is going to cause flowers to grow. Like I said, life is what you make it, and to enjoy life and high school, you have to be locked in and learn not to care too much about the small things that aren’t going to be important later on. So, who taught me this? Who not only told me this, but showed me how happy the high school experience could be if you listen to this advice? Taylor Webster.
Who is Taylor?
Taylor Webster is a rising college freshman. She will be going to Spelman University. Spelman is an all-girls HBCU (Historically black college university) in Atlanta. She graduated from Huntingtown High school on Wednesday June 5th , 2024. Throughout her entire school experience, she showed that hard work and dedication can get you somewhere. She would stay in her room for hours doing a mountain of homework to maintain her 3.9 GPA.
What Has She Contributed?
Taylor taught me how to “survive” high school. Whenever I would come to her with some dumb drama, she would shoot it down. “We don’t care “Is something she would say often. It didn’t mean that she didn’t care about me, but she didn’t care about the drama, because it was irrelevant. Taylor didn’t have time for drama, she was too busy for drama. She was the president of BSU, she was in an organization called NSBE which stands for National Society of Black Engineers. Taylor was also a part of NHS (National Honors Society) and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and also helped paint murals around the school to make the school look prettier and to highlight what makes Huntingtown, Huntingtown.
Taylor was determined to make this year count. Not only did she participate in and lead several different clubs, but she also made time for her friends and family. Whenever her family asked her for
anything, she would do it. She would practically break her back just to make the people she loved, smile. When her sister needed someone to eat lunch with (though reluctant) she would let me eat with her.
So What?
So, why should you even care about Taylor? Because she didn’t just survive high school, but she flourished. If you are ever struggling with high school and life in general, think about what she taught me. Spend less time on drama and things that don’t matter, and focus on loving yourself, focus on creating goals that you will achieve, focus on being who you are and spending time with people who actually like you instead of wasting time trying to please people you shouldn’t care about. Don’t care about anything but what you need to. Be you, and achieve great things
