The brutal war breaking out in Ukraine has affected many people including young children. A young girl named Alisa was driving home with her family and encountered Russian tanks firing at them. She witnessed her dad and mother get shot by these tanks and she was shot in the shoulder as well. Although Alisa’s mother cannot recall all the events that occurred, Alisa remembers it all.
Many questions have been circulated about how civilians in Ukraine experiencing this war, especially kids, will be able to cope with the extreme trauma they have been forced to face. Child Psychologist Yulia Golub states “The earlier they suffer the trauma, the deeper it goes.” She expresses that the younger the children are the war can affect them the most because they have no concept of the world then suddenly, they view the world as an unsafe and dangerous environment.
Several children have been put into danger due to the war with hundreds missing and over 400 killed undergoing extreme torture and suffering. About five million children in Ukraine left their homes in 2022 wanting to leave because of the suffering and violence they had to unfortunately experience.
