War is a part of history, but no war has been as documented like the war in Ukraine. Bombs rain from the sky, exploding upon hitting the ground. Walking down the once busy streets in Ukraine you find it colorless and dead. The faces of the once-happy residents are now devoid of hope. All they can do is pray as they go on the defensive against Russia’s attacks. Homes, hospitals, and mosques that once stood tall are now a part of the ground. Kids cling to their parents wondering where they can go and what they are going to do.
This is an average day for a citizen in Ukraine. Over 4 million children which is over half of the 7.5 million children in Ukraine have been displaced. Many of those children are showing signs of trauma, some will never learn to cope with this trauma. Collective centers have been set up to house the displaced population in Ukraine. Most of these facilities aren’t child-safe and lack the infrastructure used for small children. Children aren’t able to have a stable upbringing as they have been displaced and have nowhere to go. Some children seek refuge in neighboring countries while others are internally displaced. The children who are able to seek refuge in other countries live with people who open their doors for them. The children who are internally displaced need a place to stay, but there is nowhere to go. All they can do is stay at these centers and hope.
