Screaming babies, lack of sleep, always on your feet, constant worries, toys everywhere. This is what it is like to be a mother. Your kids always need new clothes, toys, and even shoes, they are growing too fast . Being a mother isn’t all bad though, it is quite the opposite. “It is the most beautiful, joyful, loving, rewarding thing ever,” My mother claims.
At the young age of 19, my mother had her first child and began motherhood. “I was much younger than I anticipated to become a mother. ” It was Thanksgiving Day 2004 falling on the 25th. I ronically, the day she delivered her child had to be Thanksgiving, sadly not allowing her to feast with the rest of the family. On the topic of Thanksgiving, she told me she was most grateful for her four children and seeing them grow as people. She loves to watch them be kind to others and help those inneed, it makes her feel proud of how she raised them.
I knew of course along with raising many children there had to come some rough spots along the way and possibly some negatives. She told me especially since we have a baby around, she does lose a lot of sleep and that this makes her daily life much more difficult when she’s in a cranky mood. Another major hardship is the problem child, or the troublemaker. In our family, this is a sibling of mine, and he is most of the time completely out of control. He enjoys making problems at school and this happens quite frequently. Many phone calls go to my mother about his misbehavior and just leave her in disbelief about why he acts out so often. This causes her a lot of stress due to it happening again and again that she has ran out of punishment s or talks about advising him what the right thing to do is. My mother has noticed with her other children talking to them has led to behavior improvements. However, at other times (mainly my sibling) her words of advice have not been used efficiently.
Being a mother comes along with some lessons being learned, and realizations being made. My mother finished, “ Having four kids over the years has taught me how to adapt to different personalities and learning I can’t always be in control of everything and let you guys learn things on your own.”
