On October 30th ,2023, I interviewed my little brother, Jackson Webster. Jackson and I talk about a lot of things, but we never really talk about his love for football and why he plays. As an older sister, I wanted to get into his headspace, and I encourage you to join me in doing just that.
My first question was “When did your love for football start?” and he said he started playing football at six. His main inspiration for football was our dad. Our dad played football at a younger age and would later advance and play college football for the University of Maryland. Our dad did not play professionally but has inspired Jackson to possibly play professionally. During this interview, I also asked what the hardest part about football was. Jackson said the hardest part about football was the amount of contact he had to endure. Being tackled to the ground because everyone on the field has the same goal… Get the ball.
Jackson is a tight end, as a tight end he blocks the opposing team and wins the ball. He plays for the Beach Buccaneers. He used to play for the Huntingtown Hurricanes. The interesting thing about Jackson and his switch between the two teams is that he didn’t want to switch. He loved being a Hurricane, and though he loved his team, the Huntingtown Hurricanes started rejecting players (even though they were not supposed to because it is a rec league) Despite this bump in the road, Jackson started playing for the Buccaneers, and last Saturday, he had to go against his old team. The Hurricanes lost, by a landslide, with Jackson playing amazingly. It was a huge win for him.
A big part of being on a football team is that everyone has an important role doesn’t matter if you are a tight end, quarterback, or running back, they all lay an equal role in either winning or losing the game. Jackson’s favorite part about playing football is running and scoring touchdowns, he loves dodging tackles and hearing the announcer yell “Touch down for the Buccaneers “accompanied by bells ringing and the proud shouts of parents on the sidelines.
A lot goes into football, it is a tedious sport. Thankfully Jackson and his teammates are up to the challenge because they have one goal… get the ball.
