Throughout history baseball has been beloved by millions all around the world. Seeing players fielding, hitting home runs, and making phenomenal plays. You never know what could happen during these intense moments. As Yogi Berra said “Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical.”
Connor Wilkerson is a college baseball player; baseball has always been a huge part of his life ever since he was little. Connor was two years old when he started to play baseball, ever since then he’s loved the sport of baseball with all he’s got. With him working hard practicing on and off the field and giving everything he’s got to work hard for the coaches. Connors’s main goal in life is to make it to the MLB and to work hard every chance he gets.
Connor’s dad has been a huge influence on how he plays baseball. The way he has influenced Connor is by heart, motivation, and dedication. Having his dad by his side the entire time he’s on the field. Playing baseball has given Connor lots of confidence and pride on the field even when things get tough at times, and you can’t control it.
Teamwork is very important to Connor, he says “Teamwork makes the dream work, but sometimes you have to work things out on your own.” Even though sometimes you feel the need to carry the team on your back, you can’t! You must work as a team to make things work out. Even though sometimes you think you should do it yourself.
When Connor was in high school, he used to play catcher. He always talked about how he loved that position and wanted to be committed to as a catcher in college. Ever since he got into college the coach moved him to be a third baseman. The coach had him move to third base because he saw a lot of potential and ability in what he could do. Ever since then, his confidence has skyrocketed.
Being on a field can lead to some struggles. Connor has been on many teams and had some struggles throughout the way like getting a hit, fielding a ball, and being a good teammate. But practice and perseverance led Connor to be a great teammate and now plays college baseball with his head held up high, having a starting position as a third baseman.
