School’s out, and the kids just want to break out of the house. Many families take vacations throughout the summertime, but for some it’s a little more difficult. Work can be a lot for parents as they try to maneuver the day and it may be hard to travel far to go to amusements or just out of town. Luckily, Calvert County has quite a few places you can go and explore, and maybe you haven’t heard of them yet.
Lots of people wants to get outside and get active. Calvert County luckily gives you resources to achieve that. One free and fun way to get outside is the parks. Calvert has an array of many parks no matter where you live. From Dunkirk, you have Ward and Dunkirk Park. When you get down into Huntingtown, you can go to Kings Landing, and in Prince Frederick you have Hallowing Point Park. These are all free, have certain hours, but are open to the public all the time. The parks allow huge fields whether you’re in the mood for some baseball, or even a little bit of soccer. And they also have activities for younger kids including playgrounds constructed to keep little ones busy.
After the free spots come expenses. Two more fun ways to get out include the Chesapeake Beach Water Park and the K & K Adventure Park. These come with some expenses. The water park is a bit more expensive than the other, but it allows some cool time in the water on a hot summer’s day. The have an assortment of water slides, and splash pools great for younger kids. The K & K Adventure Park is a little cheaper but allows fun activities from kids to adults to enjoy. They have the activities mini golf, batting cages, bumper cars, and even a rock wall.
Are you a history buff? Or just love learning new things? The Bayside History Museum and Chesapeake Railway Museum can provide all of that, along with Jefferson Patterson Park and the Calvert Marine Museum. All are free and can provide information about the lovely area of Chesapeake Beach and other places around Calvert County. From personal experience, it is a fun way to learn about your town’s history and what happened all around us. They provide great visuals including pictures and reenacted times of Calvert County and what it used to look like and explain everything to such detail you understand and have fun learning the whole time. It’s recommended as a fun free way to learn about the history of Calvert and the Chesapeake. The Calvert Marine Museum allows you to interact with sea creatures that aren’t very easy to find in the water including otters and even sting rays.
Lastly, if aren’t a fan of the heat or need something cool to do, you can try these low budget places depending on how many people you have. If you want to have fun with friends, these places allow great groups to meet up and have fun. Lord Calvert Bowling is located right near The Calverton School, but it is a bit more expensive. You must pay for everyone, and they get bowling shoes, but you must pay for every game you play. It’s a fun competition between friends and family, and even good for little kids to play too! Almost everyone loves movies, and who doesn’t love seeing them? Flagship Cinemas in Prince Frederick plays great movies, including new movies coming out and every throwback. You must pay for everyone getting a ticket to go see it but it’s a fun experience to hear and see it right there in front of you. Next, if you like yoga and stretching, there’s a fun place called Flying Frog Yoga. It might sound interesting or just disturbing, but from personal experience, its fun and cool and you can create some fun times with friends. It allows you to learn cool tricks on a sheet attached to the ceiling. It does have a cost, but it’s a great way to get a group of people together.
Summer is a fun time to enjoy and spend times with friends and familys and create good memories. There are so many other fun activities in Calvert County to, but these are a few that can create good times, and are on the low side of cost and are local so you don’t have to travel far.
