From Classrooms to Kitchens: Student Edition

For the past two issues we’ve looked at the culinary skills of our teachers, and even me, the author. Now, be prepared for what our fellow students have to offer! I’ve contacted students from Mrs. Hoch’s Cultures and Cuisines class, who were very enthusiastic about their favorite recipes! So, without further ado let’s look at all these delicious delicacies!

Koy Greenwell’s Turkish Kabobs:

With summer and the end of the school year being just around the corner, Koy’s Turkish Kabobs will be an excellent addition of summertime flair to your family cookout. “My favorite has to be the Turkish Kabobs we made… Cooking has definitely become a very fun part of the pandemic, everything – and especially these kabobs – has been very tasty and I will definitely be making them again soon!”

Ingredients:

  • Chicken (cut up to bite size)
  • Chicken Marinade
  • Chopped onions
  • Chopped peppers
  • Kebob spears

Instructions:

  1. Cut up the chicken, onions, and peppers and add them into separate bowls.
  2. Skewer the chicken, onions, and peppers on the kebob spears and rub them in the marinade.
  3. Grill till the chicken is cooked.

 

Kendall Heath’s German Spitzbuben Cookies:

This pandemic has halted may of our travel plans over the past year, whether it be from family gatherings to expensive international trips. Well now you can enjoy delectable foreign delicacies right in your very home! “These shortbread buttery cookies with cherry and strawberry filling are by far the best tasting thing I have made!” With that said, lets spread our wings and dive into new horizons of flavor!

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup of butter
  • 2/3 cup of confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 jar of cherry jam

Instructions:

  1. Cream together the flour, egg white, salt, butter and sugar until the dough forms
  2. Cut the dough into any shape you want
  3. Bake the cut dough at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes.
  4. Take two cookies and seal them together with the jam.
  5. Let the cookies cool and harden.

 

Christopher Wade’s Fried Rice:

Being a staple food in Asian recipes, fried rice is a meal everyone knows and loves! Make your home into your own hibachi grill by filling up with dazzling savory scents while listening to the sizzle and pops of the rice frying in your pan!

“My favorite dish that I have made over this pandemic must be fried rice. I love this dish because it’s such an easy dish and at the same time healthy and tasty.”

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of White rice
  • 4 cups of water
  • Yum yum sauce to taste
  • Soy sauce to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup frozen peas
  • 2/3 cups of diced carrots
  • Chicken (tiny bite size)
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Cook your rice in a saucepan
  2. In another saucepan, boil your diced carrots and peas for about 3 minutes.
  3. While your rice and veggies are cooking, cook your chicken and set aside.
  4. In a large frying pan place oil and combine the cooked rice, carrots, peas, chicken and the eggs while stirring and scrambling. Add in your sauces and cook until the rice is browned.
