In the year of 2020, I have seen many scary things in the community I live in. Just being a young black female in 2020 has been scary for many reasons. I feel as though we as black people do not get treated with respect and are not seen as real people. I feel people look down on us as if we’re not worthy enough to do anything. Growing up in school, I remember being treated differently or even bullied in some ways just because of the color of my skin. I’ve had to go to the principal and report the bullying, which takes away time I need to do my schoolwork.

When 2020 came, it was the year that everyone thought was the year of change; but it wasn’t. On top of the racial tension, a deadly virus broke out, killing millions of innocent people. Soon everyone had to quarantine themselves from each other.

When the Coronavirus hit, I felt like I’d lost a huge chunk out of my life that I couldn’t get back. Staying home for almost a year felt like ages. However, I realized that there was going to be something good out of all of this. Social distancing away from everyone was okay with me because I never really enjoyed being close to people or people being close to me. It’s sad that that’s the only good thing I can find to say about 2020.

Looking forward to 2021, I believe everyone can change and help the world become a better place. We can do things like being kind to one another and helping each other. We can volunteer and give each other ideas that can better us all.

We can also help end the virus by wearing a mask, washing our hands, and social distancing from each other. If we cooperate and do these things, along with getting the vaccination, the virus won’t continue to spread.

If we all put ourselves in each other shoes and try to see things the way other people see them, it will help us all. It will help ease racial tensions and stop the spread of the virus. Let’s Make A Change!
